TEDxManhattanBeach - Haley Rushing - Purpose Driven Revitalization

I think this is an excellent talk on purpose driven business.

Haley Rushing presents her case for a purpose driven life and the increased vitality and happiness that purpose can bring to both individuals and organizations. A key factor that was identified in the Blue Zone research was that people need a sense of purpose to live life to the fullest. She proposes that for many people purpose can be found at the intersection of the passion and the needs of their community.

Charlie Hartwell is President of Ideas to Go, a leading Innovation Process Consulting firm which helps large organizations catalyze their dynamic thinking, and uncover new opportunities for their brands.

Sometimes an idea that for some reason goes off course or becomes stalled. It is the leader's role to take that situation and creatively reroute it which can make it even better than the original concept.

Perspective - The Choice Is Yours by Kirsty Dunphey

My husband, a police officer, remarked to me recently the two predominant responses when parents with their children see him working in uniform.

Some parents will say educationally to their children: “There’s a police officer, if you’re ever in trouble, that’s who you go to, he’ll help”.

Other parents, will say educationally to their children: “There’s a police officer, if you do bad things, he’s going to lock you up”.

Two different perspectives on the same exact situation. Two different educational lessons taught to their children.

It reminded me of two of my favourite educational fables:

The first, two sales people are sent to Africa with the mandate: “sell shoes!” One calls home a week later asking to be relieved of duty – “no-one here wears shoes he says” hopelessness. The second calls after the first week stating “send more shoes – nobody here wear’s shoes!”

Two different perspectives on the same exact situation. Where one sees predestined failure, the other sees unlimited opportunity.

The second, twin sons of a hardened criminal were studied throughout their lives. One ended up behind bars, just like his father repeating many of the same mistakes. When questioned as to how he got there, he simply remarked “with a father and role model like that, how could I do anything else?” The second son ended up flourishing with a thriving career, a clean criminal record and a happy family. When questioned as to how he got there, he simply remarked “with a father and role model like that, how could I do anything else?”

Two different perspectives on the same exact situation. Where one saw no choice but to repeat the mistakes laid forth, the other used them as a road map for what not to do.

In life, we can’t always control what “happens” to us, or the situations we’re placed into. The only thing we do have control over is the way we adapt to and react to those situations and ultimately the perspective we choose to have over what has happened.

Stay Fabulous,

Kirsty

Got Truck Body? Call West Coast Truck Equipment! They've Got Jack!

West Coast Truck Equipment in West Sacramento, CA recently completed a Knapheide 8' Service Body on a GM 56" CA single rear wheel chassis for their customer. This turned out to be a beautiful body and great combination of useful features. The Knapheide body includes the master locking system and a standard height Telescopic Sliding Roof, or cargo bed enclosure. This keeps the cargo in the bed area out of sight and protected from much of the weather.

Here is the Telescopic Sliding Roof (TSR) in the closed position. Notice also that it is lockable with the same keys as the rest of the body.

One of the best features is the BedSlide that is inside the bed area under the TSR. No more climbing in the bed area on those diamond plate dimples on your knee caps. No more. Just slide the BedSlide out and access the entire load even what would normally be at the very front area. The BedSlide can handle the load too, so no worries here. It has 3 locking positions, one all the way in, halfway out and all the way out. Typically, these will handle 1200 lbs of evenly distributed weight.

Here the TSR is open so you can see how it slides inward to expose the bed area. This allows you to carry tall items from time to time as needed.

Finally, here is the BedSlide at full extension. See how useful this entire setup is and how it makes getting to your cargo so much easier and keeping it all out of sight is a benefit, along with the Master Locking System that double locks all the compartments on the sides. The main use of the Master Locking System is convenience. Instead of unlocking and locking the side doors all day long as you need to get tools and parts for the jobs, you can leave the side doors unlocked and just lock the Master Lock on each compartment so there is only one lock to unlock. This requires a padlock, and Knapheide offers a great one manufactured by Bolt Lock by Strattec that is keyed to your OEM truck key. That makes it really convenient.

Notice this wonderful ladder rack. It is very easy to lower the rack with the lever that Becky is demonstrating, and just as easy to put it back up out of the way ready for travel.

They've got Jack! Give Jack Schmidt, owner of West Coast Truck Equipment a call at 916-376-0690 and visit their website at http://www.westcoasttruckequipment.com/.

All Size Flooring Center and Carpet Cleaning Has A Huge Selection Of Inexpensive Carpet Remnants

CARPET REMNANTS

Carpet Remnants are good for doing smaller jobs. You get high end quality for an affordable price. Because All Size carries a large inventory of remnants, we are able to install the next day. This is something you won't find with every carpet supplier!

What is it?
When a factory produces a carpet roll, they then sell it in sections by order to wholesalers. When the roll gets near the end, they will sell it at a discount because the roll has an odd amount left.

Why choose it?
The quality is exactly the same as the higher cost product made by that manufacturer. You are only limited to what remnants are available, but you pay as little as half of the original cost.

All Size stocks over 300+ rolls, making them the largest remnant dealer in Solano County.

And. . . you might also consider these offers while they last:

Also. . .

20% OFF All Carpet and Vinyl Remnants and 20% OFF All Stock Vinyl, so hurry down to All Size Flooring Center and Carpet Cleaning at 1021 Mason Street, Vacaville. 707-448-3300. Visit their website at http://www.allsizecarpet.com/.

This is a great talk and good to watch again and again, and it is especially great for business.

An engineer by training who quickly discovered people were more interesting than "things", Paul Dunn began his career in technology -- first at Hewlett-Packard then at an Australian computer start-up that became a $23 million enterprise.

In 1992, he started Results Accountant Systems (RAS) aimed at accountants. Eight years later sold his business to spend more time mentoring his friends and clients. In 2003, he launched his book: The Firm of the Future.

Today, Paul helps create businesses around the world and is passionate about giving back to social causes. Celebrate Friends and Loved Ones That Have Passed With An Online Memorial

What is MemoryFly?

MemoryFly is a place to write Memorials, share Memories, and place photos of loved ones, friends, anyone important to you that has passed away, whether from the past or present. MemoryFly will then store that information in a permanent, personal web site.

MemoryFly offers a place to share memories, photos and life experiences for all to see...
for generations to come.

The Memorial you build will exist on the Internet permanently. This provides a place where children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and so on can come to read about the lives of their ancestors in first-hand accounts and see photos shared by family and friends over the years.
MemoryFly allows you to associate different Memorials with each other which provides your visitors the chance to view information about other family members or friends, and learn about their lives as well.

Who We Are

My wife and I created MemoryFly after my mother died in 2006. At that time I realized when we pass on, very few of us are remembered beyond our immediate family. If there is no real information about who we are and what we did, our memories simply fade into the photo albums and future generations only know us through the words of those who may remember something about us.
MemoryFly is a place for everyone to share stories and life accounts of those important to them and pass that information along to all future generations. Anyone can post new Memories at any time to any Memorial. When a grandchild, great-grandchild or anyone is curious about their family roots they will be able to read first-hand accounts of the lives of those relatives.

We believe death shouldn't be shrouded in sympathy and sorrow, but a cause for celebration of the person and life you knew. Make Memorials, build family trees, and most of all share with family and friends the lives of those most important to us all. MemoryFly was built on the idea that as human beings we would like to be rememberd forever, and MemoryFly offers us the chance to never be forgotten.

Check the website at http://www.memoryfly.com/.

Have Back Issues Or Other Muscle Issues? See Shiloh Williamson CMT

In the last two weeks, I've suffered from a dull back pain that made it uncomfortable to sit at my computer and work, and that is a lot of what I do, so I needed to get this taken care of. One of our clients is Shiloh Williamson, Certified Massage Therapist, so I made an appointment and went to see her last week. I wasn't sure what to expect and having been to a physical therapist once before and had a very bad experience, I was interested how or if this would be different.

It was very different. A couple of days after last weeks appointment, the pain began to subside, but one thing I noticed was that I had much more range of motion than before the appointment. She worked through relaxing my tensed up muscles so well, that I could move so much better. The second appointment brought even more relief.

All I can say is that it was a great experience and I feel much better and can move better and the pain is almost completely gone. If you have an issue like that or something similar, give Shiloh a try. Call her for a consultation or an appointment at 707-301-0440. Her website is http://www.shilohcmt.com/.

Below is a quote from the home page of her website:

"[I offer] certified medical massage therapy services. This is a type of massage that is defined as medically necessary massage, which is prescribed by a physician. Medical massage is practiced in relation to a specific goal focused on improving the health of my patients. It can be helpful to individuals who suffer from an assortment of health conditions, including repetitive motion injuries, muscle spasms, neuromuscular conditions, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, chronic headaches, whiplash, rotator cuff injuries, and soft-tissue injuries as well, to name a few. Overall, medical massage is a noninvasive therapy that produces beneficial health results to those experiencing numerous health-related illnesses and injuries.

I also focus on wellness massage. It is a gentle, non-invasive massage. I find and touch the pain -- I don't inflict the pain. By asking a few questions and looking at a patient's body, I find where the pain is hiding. Sometimes for a moment it could be uncomfortable but, once I release that pain my patients feel great relief. It is important to listen and understand the somatic of what a patient is experiencing. I work with my clients to help them understand what their bodies are saying in order to achieve the best results. My education and background is utilized not only with my patients that require medical massage, but also carries over to my patients that come to me for wellness massage, however, wellness massage is non-prescribed."

Hands On Owner and Operator Tom Jackson IS Vacaville Electric And He CAN Do The Job!

My name is Tom Jackson, Owner/Operator of Vacaville Electric. I have been an Electrician for 15 years and have hands-on field training in Residential, Commercial and Industrial electrical work. When I was 19 years old, I took over a friend's job doing Residential electric work and have been in the Electrical industry ever since. After a few years of Residential work, I wanted to learn something new and switched to Commercial work. A couple of years later, the location of the company's work started moving too far south.

At that time, I made the decision to join Local 180 and to work locally. I was sworn (organized) in as a Residential Journeyman. After a couple years, I challenged the Board and tested out for Commercial Journeyman.

The last five years have been spent working in the Napa Valley, doing Wineries, Caves, Restaurants, Shopping Centers and Custom Homes. Last year I decided it was time to bring my experience home and begin the last company I will ever work for. My experience includes everything from Design to New Construction, Existing Construction, Remodels, Tenant Improvements and Service/maintenance of existing systems.

In July of 2009, I started Vacaville Electric. We are Locally Owned and Operated. I was born and raised in Fairfield, and have been residing in Vacaville for the last 10 years. My family is a part of this community and we are here to stay.

Vacaville Electric stands behind our work. We will get the job done right and in a timely manner. Customer satisfaction is important to us.
