3 Truths About Overnight Success

C'mon over to http://www.marieforleo.com/2013/07/ov... where the main discussion happens after the episode!

How to become an overnight success - it's something many people wonder about because it seems to happen so often to others. The truth is that success is not easy and doesn't happen fast. In this video you'll learn 3 real truths to keep in mind about overnight success.

Truth #1. Overnight success is the extremely rare exception, not the rule. While some people can legitimately see fast results, for most people, real success takes time and a lot of hard work. The path to being successful is a marathon, not a sprint.

Truth #2. You're likely NOT getting the whole story. When you see a story of success on someone's website and you think that's how to become successful, think again. Especially in short blurbs or media pieces, there may not be room to tell the whole story or they want to position their story a certain way. Remember there's usually more to it than you know.

Truth #3. Explosive growth can be a recipe for disaster. You could actually destroy your brand if you're not prepared for overnight success. Fast growth requires a solid foundation, a strong team and an ability to scale and these things take time to develop. Slow and steady wins the race.

The answer to the question how to become successful isn't to focus on overnight success, but to remember that slow and steady wins the race.

Knotty Hair Salon - A Bit of History

Prior to the stock market crash of 1929, business in Suisun was booming. Local historian Jerry Bowen cites a 1925 edition of the River News, which noted that Suisun City's prosperity at the time was evident by the success of its banks. Specifically, the Bank of Suisun, which in 1925 had more than 10 times its original capital stock of $100,000 in its vault.

Founded by R.D. Robbins on February 7, 1876, the Bank of Suisun was the town's first bank and Robbins oversaw its growth as president until his death in 1919. The bank's first location was 607 Main Street.

By 1927, the bank was ready for a new home. It found it, a few doors down on the corner of Main and Sacramento Streets. According to The Heritage Collection, a historical book on Fairfield-Suisun sites and structures, the building was built on the site of the Rummelsburg Dry Goods Store. Typifying the Mediterranean style of the 1920s and 1930s, it was designed with high-arched windows, a low-pitched tile roof, stucco surface walls, and a rectangular floor plan.

Today, some 85 years later, these same architectural features can still be found at 601 Main Street. Paint may have given the exterior a brand new look, but the basic design of the historic 1927 building remains perfectly preserved as Old Town glamour. Fittingly so, since these days Knotty Hair Salon is what buzzes with commerce there.

New owners Justin and Emily Giangrasso set up shop at the corner of Main and Sacramento in 2009, converting the building into a modern beauty salon with vintage touches. Customers can take a step back in time with a visit. The lather room, for example, is built inside the Bank of Suisun's old vault - complete with the original bank doors.

Read more in the Downtown Suisun City Walking Tour Guide.

Knotty Hair Salon is located in historical Suisun City. They are directly across from the beautiful waterfront. In 1927, this building was home to the Bank of Suisun. In 2009, Justin and Emily Giangrasso (owners) transformed this charming old building into a lovely salon with a friendly atmosphere.

Clients are now able to enjoy a relaxing shampoo in the chandelier adorned "Lather Room." At one time this room was the vault of the old bank. Still standing are the vault doors with all of their character and interest. Knotty Hair Salon has experienced stylists who cater to all. They offer a variety of services and specialize in many different areas. We highly recommend scheduling your appointment in advance, but walk-ins are always welcome!

About Yippie Yogurt

The Yippie Yogurt story begins with founding Board President Sherilyn Henry and her family’s love for frozen yogurt. When the Henrys moved to Fairfield from southern California in 2000, they found few frozen yogurt shops in Solano County. Sherilyn thought off and on about developing a frozen yogurt store herself.

Sherilyn also had a growing concern for homeless, foster care and low-income youth trapped in a cycle of generational poverty. She wanted to do something that would make a lasting difference and give these young people the opportunity to build the skills and experience necessary to find gainful employment, to be self-supporting and to give back to the community.

These two ideas came together in 2008, and the idea for Yippie Yogurt, a nonprofit, was born: a self-serve frozen yogurt job-training shop that gives low-income young people employment experience as a part of a broad employment training program, along with internship placement aid.

With the help of the Small Business Development Center, a business plan was drafted that showed such a yogurt shop could show a profit within a year. Yippie Yogurt could be self-sustaining and help hundreds of youth break the cycle of poverty. Sherilyn also envisions that as the Yippie Yogurt shop(s) become successful, Yippie Foundation will also share financial support to other community nonprofits serving youth.

Networking with friends and community members, Sherilyn found others who supported the idea of Yippie Yogurt and wanted to make it happen. The Yippie Foundation Board of Directors held their first meeting in August, 2010. From the beginning, one commitment was to have youth and young adults serving on the Board. Since that first meeting, the infrastructure of the non-profit organization has moved quickly. Yippie Foundation received its 501(c)3 status (which includes Yippie Yogurt). Classes and mentoring began in September 2011 and the first Yippie Yogurt class graduated in March 2012!

The next Yippie Foundation Academy dates will be announced soon. Yippie Yogurt job training shop, is now open in Fairfield.

You can be a part of the Yippie Yogurt story too! Make a contribution, volunteer, and spread the word to your Facebook friends and others. Be on the Yippie Team and help us to help Solano County youth reach their potential as caring, contributing and family-sustaining citizens through Yippie job training, work experience, mentoring and career development.

Bryan Braker Funeral Home - Pre-Planning Checklist

The staff members of Bryan Braker Funeral Home will guide your family in creating a meaningful ceremony to honor the life and memory of a loved one. A ceremony can be anything you wish it to be: simple or elaborate, traditional or unique. No matter how it’s tailored, such a ceremony is an important step in recovering from loss.

For many, it feels like there’s an overwhelming amount of things to think about! But in all honesty, taking control of the important things in life just feels good; you know it's the right thing to do for you, and your family.

Prepare
Laying the foundation for a well thought out plan for you or a loved one takes a bit of time, but, it's worth every moment spent. After all, you’re setting the stage for a more relaxed and enjoyable life, because you’ll have the peace-of-mind preparedness brings. Here’s what to do to get started:
  • Prepare a contact list of individuals who should be notified in a medical emergency or death.
  • Write an obituary or simply jot down information you would like included in an obituary.
  • Decide where obituary and memorial information should appear.
Choose the type of service you would like including the burial you prefer and make those arrangements. You will need to decide:
  • Cemetery lot location
  • Casket type; cremation urn type
  • Vault or sectional crypt
  • Type of service: religious, military, non-denominational, or fraternal
  • The contact details for the funeral home you designate to care for you
  • Pallbearers, music, flowers, scripture or other readings
  • Charity to receive donations in lieu of flowers, if donations are preferred
  • Select the speakers and the eulogies that you would want to represent you.
  • Decide what organizations or church will benefit from memorial donations in your name.
Arrange and Delegate
The people who know and care about you will be there when you need them. You only need to provide them with instructions, important financial details, and then relax. You’re in good hands.
  • Give your Executor a copy of your Will. Safety deposit boxes are often opened up during the estate settlement process, long after the funeral. Any funeral planning documents therein can be of no help to your executor.
  • Make sure your representative has a list of important account information or telephone numbers for retirement plans, insurance policies, investments, bank accounts, safe-deposit boxes, properties, preferred law and accountant firms and mortuaries. Remind your personal representative that the Social Security Administration will need to be called and, if you're receiving benefits such as those from the Veteran's Administration, they should be contacted as well.
  • Designate a power of attorney to ensure that proper information can be accessed in the event of your illness or death. Make sure the power of attorney over health care or the health care directive and a living will are in place so that your wishes are carried out if you are unable to do so.
  • Make arrangements for telephone and utilities services, and newspaper and magazine deliveries, to be cancelled.
Pay for:
  • Cemetery and memorialization services
  • Funeral arrangements, including clergy, florist and transportation
  • Make arrangements for pets to find a new home.
You can also contact us for additional information. We're pleased to answer any questions you may have, without obligation.
For more information please visit http://www.bryanbraker.com/
