Pierce Energy Planning
Leadership
Leadership is the foundation of the energy conservation program. In order for behaviors to change in a school district, personnel must see the behaviors of leadership change. Thus, it is fair to say that as goes administration, so goes the schools. The governing board and superintendent must show initial and on-going support for the energy program giving it regular attention in public and school meetings and in other venues. Once administrators and personnel are convinced that this program has the support of leadership, they will most likely join in.
Information
Data drives energy conservation programs in many ways. Initially, energy and building data allow the consultant to evaluate the energy performance of each campus (benchmark). A rule of thumb is that if a building performs poorly when benchmarked in Energy Star Portfolio Manager, there is an opportunity to save more on that campus through energy behavior changes. Data drives the initial analysis and continues to drive the program through monthly tracking of usage and costs. In many cases, monthly informational reports sent to each campus can motivate staff and students to work harder, especially if the usage information is made public. Energy education and “best practices” are other important types of information that must be effectively incorporated into the energy conservation program if it is to be successful.
Marketing
People generally do not respond to a suggestion the first time. Good marketing firms understand that the message must be presented in various ways over and over again before it is internalized. Energy conservation programs require a constant and on-going message before the behaviors we are attempting to bring into the schools actually become habits. And when good energy behaviors become habits in the buildings, we know that the culture has been transformed. Each campus involved in the energy conservation program as well as district facilities must develop a marketing plan and implement it each year.
Pierce Energy Planning provides complete energy conservation services to public and private sector companies throughout the United States empowering them to create a culture that embraces the principles of conservation and supporting them in saving millions of dollars.

Paul Brown's Tri-Tip In A Crock-Pot Recipe Is So-So Good!
Tri-Tip In A Crock Pot
Yes! You saw it correctly. Now, I'm a meat eater extraordinaire and I can tell you that when I first heard of this, I laughed. Then I tried it and let me tell you, it is so darn good! Matter of fact, at a recent large get together we did two tri-tips in the crock and several others on the grille, and guess which ones were gone first! The Crock Pot won by a landslide! It's easy to do and here's how:
Ingredients
Approximate 3 lb Tri-Tip
1/2 Cup Beef Broth
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2-3 Tbsp garlic salt
1 Tbsp ground mustard
4 dashes of hot sauce (your choice)
A couple drizzles of olive oil
Preparation
Assemble all ingredients in the crock pot on low heat for 6-8 hours
Remove tri-tip and let stand for 5 minutes before carving
How easy is that!?

Excerpt From Preface of Motivated By Pain Book by Patrick Moore
. . .All of my behaviors - the alcohol, steroids, avoiding my boys - were motivated by the desire to avoid any more pain. I just couldn’t take it anymore. I couldn’t do it. I was devastated by the loss of my family and couldn’t - hell, didn’t - know how to cope.
This book started when I decided to write a letter to my boys to help them understand that Daddy’s recent behavior was not conducive to being a successful person, nor was it evidence of his true behavior. I wanted them to learn from my countless mistakes so they NEVER have to endure the pain of losing a spouse. I want them to know I am a good man. I just didn’t manage myself well when times went terribly bad.
From the stress, to the ego being crushed, to the “friend,” it all precluded my demise. The more I wrote, the more I started to feel alive, liberated, and in control. After three years, I finally started to feel like me again.
Then I thought, “I can be the average guy who doesn’t just accept the butt-kicking that life had just handed me and turn this immense loss into a much greater victory.” What if my life’s destiny, my responsibility to mankind, is summoning the courage to share my story with millions of men and women? This may be a story we all share in one time or another. So here it is.
My hope is that this book will make you laugh, it will make you think, and it will bring a tear to your eye. But most of all, my hope is that you gain one thing to take away that can help you with your relationship today.
Here is my first request: Grab your cell phone and randomly send your partner an “I am thinking of you right now” text. This is how our journey begins. . .
See more about Patrick Moore and his book, Motivated by Pain at his website, http://www.mooremotivation.net/.

Duct Cleaning by North Bay Air Systems
FACT: 50 million Americans suffer from allergies and typical household indoor air pollutants has been found to be up to 70 times greater than outdoor air. (USEPA)
Your duct system functions as the respiratory system of your home. When it becomes contaminated (mold spores, bacteria, fungus, mildew microbes' dust mites, etc.), and congested, it should be cleaned so it can breath normally and efficiently. Each time you turn on your furnace or A/C, these contaminants are spewed out and circulated throughout your home and can affect your health and comfort. Removal of contaminants from the entire HVAC system is recognized by industry experts as the most effective way to eliminate air duct pollutants.
Our HEPA-AIR cleaning system assures that your ducts are being cleaned with the most advanced source removal equipment available. This system allows our technicians to thoroughly clean your entire duct system.
Give North Bay Air Systems a call at 707-747-0422 to make an appointment or to get more information.

Ever Seen A 115' Seamless Rain Gutter Installed?
Here is an unusual task: Installing a 115' seamless rain gutter in tight quarters at a large apartment complex. It takes a team!
In this case, Above All Roofing of Fairfield and Vacaville tackles a large apartment complex reroofing job in Fairfield CA, and they also do seamless rain gutters. This is one of many very long seamless gutters they have installed and this video shows how it is not easy to maneuver such a product, but this team got it from the ground out front in the tight parking area to installation on the roof in less than 7 minutes at an easy pace.
A bit of fun from Above All Roofing. Call them at 707-446-8819 or in San Francisco at 415-989-ROOF.
Note: Above All Roofing is one of our new clients and we are building them a website now. I just happened to stop by to take some photos of a job they were doing in Fairfield and couldn't pass up the video opportunity of this gutter installation. It was big fun to watch this successful install.

Business In A Declining Market - Business In Transition
Is your business in transition? How do you recognize it if it is? Better yet…what will you do about it? Often our business may be in transition, with obvious signs. However, if we do not pay attention to those signs, or are ignorant of them or even choose to ignore the signs there could be issues in our business. We could end up with less sales and decreased profits. We must pay attention to and learn from those signs during any transition times.
In late 1979, the entrepreneurial urge hit me and I quit my job to open a musical instrument store. Though we carried other musical instruments in small quantities our main push was guitars, focusing more on acoustic and acoustic-electric models. I was told music stores in general were a declining industry and that the guitar sales boom ended back in the early to mid-1970s. I’m sure they were right, but I did it anyway.
Although I owned the store for about two years, I closed it for reasons other than a declining market. Yet here in 2011, a good musical instrument store can still do very well. And we did well too. The key for us was to focus on a certain area of the wide musical market and concentrate our resources in that area. We did and thereby excelled in that area creating our own market so to speak. I believe it is a major key strategy for a store today to create a way to make significant profits in a so-called declining market.
In mid-2004, I began an online used book selling business with eBay and half.com (owned by eBay). I grew it as fast as I could as a one person show, and within a little over a year had 12,000 items online and a warehouse for storage.
The used book business is a huge market, including a huge number of sellers. As a result of this competition, sellers were competing over the lowest gross profit. That is a total waste of time and energy. It amazed me how many people tried to sell a book for $.75 to $1.00 while trying to make a profit on the shipping. The volume anyone would have to do at that ridiculous low pricing would require so much space and so many people, that I think it is impossible to make a profit. Yet people fought over the right to be the seller in this way.
My strategy was different. I wanted an average sale of $10 and I refused to even consider taking the time to list an item on the Internet and then sell it for a dollar. It made no sense. My strategy worked and to help make it work, I included an actual photo of each and every book so the potential buyer could see the real thing. Most of the other sellers didn’t take this step and it is understandable considering the low price. It worked very well. If a book was listed with 10 to 15 sellers at under $4, I would sell the same book for $10. In other words, what some were thinking was a declining market…I found a good profitable niche. . .More

About Vacaville Electric:
Vacaville Electric is a full service Electrical Contractor based in Vacaville, California. Some of our company specialties include Residential, Commercial, Industrial, Service & Maintenance, Design, Lighting and Solar. When you need an electrician, you can count on us.

About Tom Jackson:
My name is Tom Jackson, Owner/Operator of Vacaville Electric. I have been an Electrician for 15 years and have hands-on field training in Residential, Commercial and Industrial electrical work. When I was 19 years old, I took over a friend's job doing Residential electric work and have been in the Electrical industry ever since. After a few years of Residential work, I wanted to learn something new and switched to Commercial work. A couple of years later, the location of the company's work started moving too far south.
At that time, I made the decision to join Local 180 and to work locally. I was sworn (organized) in as a Residential Journeyman. After a couple years, I challenged the Board and tested out for Commercial Journeyman.
The last five years have been spent working in the Napa Valley, doing Wineries, Caves, Restaurants, Shopping Centers and Custom Homes. Last year I decided it was time to bring my experience home and begin the last company I will ever work for. My experience includes everything from Design to New Construction, Existing Construction, Remodels, Tenant Improvements and Service/maintenance of existing systems.
In July of 2009, I started Vacaville Electric. We are Locally Owned and Operated. I was born and raised in Fairfield, and have been residing in Vacaville for the last 10 years. My family is a part of this community and we are here to stay.
Vacaville Electric stands behind our work. We will get the job done right and in a timely manner. Customer satisfaction is important to us.

"I can honestly say that I love what I do! I don't think many people can say that. Providing my customers with the very best is important to me. Every Wednesday I go to the Flower Mart in San Francisco to hand select the flowers we use in all of our arrangements. We are also now carrying silk flowers."
There are presently five employees; Kristi, Ginny, Marsha, and Roxana. I couldn't do it without them. They are awesome. We will be happy to meet your needs from custom floral arrangements, plants, unique gift items, funerals and corporate events. We specialize in weddings ~ our favorite!

Milestones. Achieving a milestone. Passing a milestone.
999B According to www.baseballreference.com, in the 135 years of Major League Baseball, there have been a total of 17,538 MLB players. Out of that 17,538, only 25 of them have hit more than 500 home runs. Of those 25, nearly half are contemporary players who may have used steroids, but the others are among baseball immortals: Babe Ruth, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ted Williams, Mel Ott, Mickey Mantle, Eddie Matthews, Ernie Banks, Jimmy Foxx, Frank Robinson, Harmon Killebrew, Willie McCovey, Reggie Jackson, and Mike Schmidt.
I am achieving two milestones this month. This is the 500th issue of Sales Caffeine, and I just published my 1,000th weekly column. YIKES!
Milestones are NOT goals. No one ever set out to achieve a milestone. Milestones are reached with small, consistent achievements that, when added up over a 10 or 20-year span, equal something big (something more than a goal).
My first column was written and published on March 22, 1992. Not a milestone, just an achievement. Fast-forward to June 2011. Consistent work along the way and BOOM - a milestone.
Milestones are accomplished over time from achievement after achievement. Home run after home run. To start, think one at a time, not 500.
Here are the elements of what it takes to achieve a milestone:
* The skillset. Are your fundamentals solid? Do you have a genuine understanding or capability of where you are trying to get to?
* The drive. You have to wake up in the morning and be ready. Not because you have to, because you want to.
* The knowledge. Do you consider yourself an expert?
* The daily self-discipline. Making small achievements a habit is paramount in the milestone process.
* The desire. The more you "want" to do it, the easier it will be and the more fun it will be to create achievement.
* The practice. Every great ballplayer comes to the park two hours before the game starts to practice. If you're going for a milestone, practice is NOT an option. NOTE: The better you are, the more you have to practice.
* The action. Nothing in the milestone process will happen unless you make it happen. Action is a culmination of several attributes and is also a report card on how you have mastered them.
* The consistency. My milestones are based on my consistency. Achieving 1,000 articles came from one article per week for 1,000 weeks. Achieving 500 email magazines came from one email magazine per week for 500 weeks. One means nothing. One consistently over 10 years equals milestone.
* The intention. Intentions trump goals. If you do not intend to do something, the goal will never be achieved. Intention and milestone are brother and sister. In order for achievement to take place, intention must precede it.
* The "no matter what" (no excuse) attitude. Non-achievers are great at making excuses for why it won't happen or why it can't happen. (My definition of can't is won't.) If you are trying to achieve something, and you write it down, end the intention or the goal with the words "even if my ass falls off." It will automatically give you a clearer picture of intention and achievement.
* The love of it. When I look back at my milestone achievements, one of the most important attributes in the process is loving what I do. It makes intention automatic. But more important (perhaps most important) is that I'm always striving to be my best in all of my achievement. It may take extra time and it may take extra work, but the reward and the pride lead to fulfillment.
* The personal pride. Personal pride cannot be measured, only felt. And it's a great feeling.
* The personal sense of achievement. Personal sense of achievement cannot be measured, only felt. And it's a great feeling.
* The personal sense of fulfillment. Personal sense of fulfillment cannot be measured, only felt. And it's a great feeling.
Nothing and no one lasts forever. But for me, it's safe to say that 2,000 columns and 1,000 email magazines and are within sight and within achievement - all I have to do is maintain the pace, stay focused on my responsibilities, and do the hard work required. Keep thinking, keep collecting ideas, keep writing, keep working harder than everyone else, and keep loving what I do. Simple - not easy.
Milestones lead to more milestones. As a writer, my body of work has allowed me to complete my 11th book this year, and my intention is to write 10 more.
